Before you hire a moving company, check if it has a license from Public Utilities Commission (PUC). No moving company may engage in transporting household goods without a PUC license. You may suffer irreparable losses of personal belongings with little means of recovery from unlicensed movers.

Also, check if the moving company has insurance for your
goods, and if it has a physical business location.
