save electricity. - Use a microwave for cooking instead of electric stove if
you can. - Set your thermostat to 78 degrees in the hot summer, and set
it to 69 degrees in the cold winter. - Many electronic and electrical products such as air conditioners,
cable boxes, audio systems, radios, TVs, VCRs, computer peripherals,
continue to consume power even you turn switches off because they
are still in power standby or sleep mode. You can unplug devices
using power strips, or pull their plugs off the wall outlets
to prevent "leaking electricity", but this is not always practical.
One way to reduce this "ghost power" loss is to buy products that
meet minimum energy-efficiency standards indicated by Energy Star
labels. The Energy Star program is an energy efficient program
established by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S.
Department of Energy. - Replace your old windows with Energy-Star rated windows.
- Use Energy Star qualified light bulbs.
- Replace your refrigerator with Energy Star rated one.
Older refrigerator usually uses more power. - Use Energy Star certified appliances.
- Replace your incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent
lights. Use fluorescent bulbs or compact fluorescent lamps (CFL)
wherever you can. They help you save good money on electricity.
