Article: Money saving tips on legal service

You can reduce legal cost by reducing the amount of time you meet your lawyer and by well-preparing before the meeting. Here are some tips:

Called the lawyer's office in advance before visiting her office.

Know all deadlines and time lines of your case if you can.

Gather all questions that you would like your lawyer to answer.
Decide which questions you need to ask orderly.

Compile a list all documents and letters for your case.
Prepare all paper works needed for the case, and fill out
necessary documents and forms before seeing your lawyer.

Don't hide anything from your lawyer. If an unfortunate event
happens, it may cost you more money and time for additional
legal services. You lawyer may withdraw from your case if you
refuse to cooperate.

Your attorney may not help you much with your emotional
problems. Rather than spending time talking to her about how
you feel spending her time and your time, you'd better seek
professional help or talk to your family and relatives.

Read legal books, research, and know about your case as much as
you can. The Internet and local libraries are good places to
find legal information. The more you understand your case, the
less time your lawyer needs to explain basic things to you.

Avoid being sued in the first place. Sometimes, advice from your
lawyer is important to prevent you from ending up in litigation.

Settle lawsuit out of court as early as possible. Many court
cases drag on a long time increasing legal costs before settling
out of court.

Find out all billable hours your lawyer will charge you. Many
lawyers do charge by the minutes for their time. Ask if phone
calls, emails, faxing, filling out papers, etc., are billable.

Talk to a paralegal assistant or lawyer's secretary if they
can answer your questions. You save money by not wasting your
lawyer's time.

If your lawyer charges you for her traveling time to your
place, you save money by coming to her office instead.
