Obtain as many empty boxes as you can from your company, your friends and relatives, convenient stores, grocery stores.

To save money, you don't need to buy bubble wrap or foam if crumple newspapers, tissue papers
can do the job of padding fragile items.

Pack your goods by yourself so you don't have to pay a moving
company for this task. Some items may require proper packing;
so, ask your movers what to do.

If you move to a new location for a new job, your new
company often pays for moving expense. Ask your manager or
Human Resource personnel in a new company if they can pay
for your moving expense.

To many people, the 'moving season' is from May through December.
If you hire professional movers, do not move during these busy
months if you can. Movers will rush to move your stuffs which
may not be good, and they'll charge you more. Many people move
during these busy months because their children are not in school.

If you decide to hire a moving company, plan to get estimates
from several professionals movers and compare prices. They should
visit your place and make estimates on what you move. To save
time, you could prepare your own list and give to them. Also,
talk with them about coverage and liabilities; who will pay for
the damaged, lost, or stolen things.

If you find a moving company from a website on the Internet, and
it doesn't send an employee to visit your place to estimate cost,
don't use its service.

A moving company charges you more during certain days of
the month such as end of month when they are busy because
many people move then. You save money if your moving doesn't
fall into those days.

If you can borrow a truck from your friend or relatives and
move yourself, you pay only gas money. If they volunteer to
help you, buy them lunches or dinners. Thanks to them, you
save a lot of money.

In the moving day, reserve a parking space for the movers'
truck closest to your door. Most movers charge you extra
cost if the distance from their truck to your door is
longer than 75 feet.

Call people in advance to notify them your new address or send
address-change cards to:
- Friends, relatives, neighbors
- Dentists, doctors, lawyers, accountants, stock brokers
- Your company, banks, charge cards, debit cards, credit cards
- Loans and financial firms
- Federal, State, and local government offices, tax offices,
Department of Motor Vehicles
- Online accounts, Internet accounts, newspapers,
magazines, any membership club cards
- Schools, church, utilities companies, phone and communication
companies, Internet providers.
